Low Expectations Of The (environmental news) Season
No commentsBy Kyla Mie
It is obvious who the pleasant surprises of the 2009 Sprint Cup season are after thirteen races. Making NASCAR news is a small group of top-ranking drivers. Drivers, Tony Stewart and Ryan Newman, are two that have exceeded preseason expectations. David Reutimann, a driver for Michael Waltrip Racing, is having a exceptional season, with a recent victory at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Reutimann is very close to reaching top twelve status.
Although a part-time driver in the Sprint Cup, Brad Keselowski has become a first-time win in 2009. He won at Talladega driving for Phoenix Racing, and independent team owned by James Finch.
There were other pleasant surprises, such as the improvement of Juan Pablo Montoya and Sam Hornish Jr over their 2008 season performances.
Now, despite these pleasant surprises, there have been other drivers and teams that have performed worse than expected.
Dale Earnhardt Jr tops the roster of disappointments in 2009. When Earnhardt Jr first arrived at Hendrick Motorsports in 2008, he was the strongest of the four-car outfit. As the season got moving full speed, other teams began to close the gap until Earnhardt was lagging behind his competitors. He has yet to regain the magic he and Tony Eury Jr found in the early months of the 2008 campaign. In fact, Rick Hendrick replaced Tony Eury Jr with Lance McGrew. McGrew is now the interim crew chief for Earnhardt Jr.
Despite his efforts, Earnhardt Jr has struggled to carry his burden; in the midst of his weak performance, this burden seems like too much to handle. NASCAR’s top driver is in a race to improve his performance to avoid continued negative press.
Kevin Harvick, who was a qualifying driver in the Chase for the Championship between 2006 and 2008, also won six races during that time. Nevertheless, he finds himself in the middle of his least productive season since his second-year slump in 2002. It seems as if a fourth consecutive Chase for the Championship appearance is a long-shot for Harvick, who has not won a race since the 2007 Daytona 500.
Harvick is not the only racer from his racing team that is drowning poor track performance. His Richard Childress Racing teammates have faded since the previous year, most notably Clint Bowyer. After an outstanding start to the 2009 season, Bowyer has finished below the top ten in each of the previous seven races leading up to the Pocono 500. Even with Jeff Burton’s consistent record, the overall performance of the team is definitely down . Driver Casey Mears has managed to get two top ten finishes in the last four races despite his slow start at open of the season.
Roush Fenway Racing driver David Ragan ranks high as another disappointing performer, rivaling even Earnhardt Jr and Harvick. It seems the NASCAR news is getting grimmer. Ragan was possibly the most improved driver in 2008, but he has fallen back into mediocrity. With a thirteenth place finish at 2008 championships, NASCAR news and racing analysts were forecasting that Ragan would join the ranks of drivers competing in the Sprint Cup championships. Unfortunately, for Ragan, he only scored one top ten finish in the first thirteen races. It brings the status of the team into question.
Ragan’s teammate Carl Edwards achieved victory in the Sprint Cup series, with nine races in 2008. Now, with thirteen races over, Edwards has not won another race. Even though he is among the top twelve in the championship listings, we all expected more out of Edwards and the No. 99 group.
I, like many others, am drawn to the spectacle of NASCAR racing and keep up on NASCAR news items when I can. Writing about NASCAR offers some adde dimensions.
Some advice on choosing the right car
By Garrett36 Pierson36
We all dream about the car we’d like, Maybe we see one in the street and think ‘that’s the one for me’ then, being fickle, will see another a little further along the street and say ‘No, that’s the car I want!’. Don’t worry, this is quite normal, very few people know exactly what they want. Here, we give you some considerations on choosing the right car for you so you don’t end up saddled with a car that, frankly, disappoints you! Remember that you are likely to spend a lot of your time sitting in it and the model you choose will say a lot about you to other people. What will be your new car’s main purpose? Your lifestyle and what your new car will be used for is the very first thing you need to think about. Basically, your dream car may be TT Roadster (a two-seater) bit if the car is to be used to drop the kids off to school, then it really won’t be suitable! Consider this ‘. ‘ Is the car going to be used for family trips? ‘ commuting to work in? (then choose a diesel to get the most from your fuel) ‘ will it be a sporty second car for week-ends? ‘ Does it need to used for off-roading? ‘ Will it be needed for business? ‘ Are you married or single? Do you have children? etc etc This will then help you build a picture in mind of the car that is realistically right for you The costs Another important consideration is running costs: ‘ What insurance group is the car? The higher the group, the more your insurance premium will be ‘ If your car is going to do a lot of mileage (over 12,000 miles a year), then think about choosing a car with a diesel engine ‘ these are better on fuel consumption ‘ More expensive cars will have higher servicing and maintenance bills Comfort Depending on what purpose your car is used for, comfort is a consideration. For commuting or high mileage vehicles, the car should be of the optimum comfort and, ideally, have air conditioning. If it is a fun car, say a sporty number for weekends, then be prepared that the ride will be slightly harder (but a lot of fun!) Featured Merchant By now you should have a good idea of the type of car you want and what it needs to be like to suit your circumstances! Now, think about how much you can comfortably afford and start doing your research! The internet is a good place to start looking, you can research prices, specifications and, if you are after a new car, for a bit of fun, you can even visit a manufacturers site and build a car to your own specifications! Also, scour the motor section of your local newspaper to see what finance deals and offers are on at local dealerships. You could pick up a good deal! Happy Motoring!
